Late last week we noticed wood ducks flying above Kerber Pond Park in Chanhassen, MN. This afternoon I got my first photos of wood ducks checking out a couple houses in my backyard, above the park.
The pair sat for awhile on top of the house closest to the pond below. Then the female flew over to the house which is 10-15 ft up the hill. The female went inside the upper house and looked out. I think she liked that one best since it's been used for bringing families of wood into the world for the last 5 or 6 years. Maybe she was born in there.
This seems a little early in the season for wood ducks in Minnesota, especially since a blizzard is approaching western and northern Minnesota.
