The authors of this article unfortunately missed the most important point in trying to see what will happen to groundwater aquifers with climate change - i.e. that increasing rainfall intensity will increase the percent of rainfall going to surface runoff and will decrease the percent of rainfall going to aquifers used for water supply.
Climate change, a recent "hot topic" when studying the atmosphere, oceans, and Earth's surface; however, the study of another important factor to this global phenomenon is still very much "underground." Few scientists are looking deep enough to see the possible effects of climate change on groundwater systems.
